This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Wednesday, August 22 evening update.

Rare bird alert reinstated for the WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER.

Featured birds are HEERMAN'S GULL & RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.

Sightings for Wednesday, August 22

The female WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER was sighted today and yesterday between
km 11.8 & 11.9 on Camp McKinney Rd. east of Oliver BC in the Okanagan. For
further details contact the Okanagan Bird Alert at 250-491-7738.

An adult HEERMAN'S GULL and 100+ COMMON TERNS were seen from the Tsawwassen
Ferry Jetty.

The RED-NECKED PHALAROPE count on the Links CG pond seen from 72nd was 18.

Tuesday, August 21

There were 13 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES reported on the Links GC pond off 72nd.

Another 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES was reported from the Reifel Refuge.

Monday, August 20

Sightings reported from the Reifel Refuge included a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE,
WILSON'S PHALAROPE and a GREEN HERON.

Sunday, August 19

A very early ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen over Tsawwassen's Centennial Beach.

Both of the GREAT EGRETS being observed recently from 2 locations in the
Lower Mainland were reported. One at Langley's Brydon Lagoon near 53rd &
200, the other at Willband Creek Park in Abbottsford.

OSPREYS were reported from 112th on Boundary Bay and Stanley Park's 2nd
Beach area.

The WILLET was observed from it's usual location at the foot of the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty. Also seen on the Jetty were 5 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

A GOLDEN PLOVER was seen with a large flock of BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS in the
plowed field south of Hornby Dr. and east of 104th.

Ten RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were on the Links GC pond.

Reported from Colony Farm RP were 2 AMERICAN BITTERN, a VIRGINIA RAIL,
PEREGRINE FALCON and 11 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS.

Seen at Reifel were a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON, and a GREEN HERON,
