Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday August 23. If you have anything to add call
Harry Nehls at 503-233-3976.

Shorebirds and swallows were the most conspicuous migrants during the
week with the first WHITE-FRONTED GEESE arriving from the north. The
recent storm brought a few COMMON TERNS to the coast.

A POMARINE JAEGER was off Boiler Bay August 20. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was
at the Salmon River Estuary north of Lincoln City August 19. Another with
an injured bill has been at the Gearhart Golf Course all week.

An immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was west of Tillamook August 17. An adult
was east of Tillamook August 19. One was Ankeny NWR August 17, and one or
two were at Tumalo Reservoir near Bend August 22.

Over 100 WHITE PELICANS continue to be seen at Smith Lake in North
Portland; the Fern Ridge Reservoir birds are still in that area. The MUTE
SWANS are still at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. The
southernmost pond is now showing quite a bit of mud and is attracting a
good variety of shorebirds. A juvenile FORSTER'S TERN was at Fern Ridge
Reservoir August 16.

Thats it for this week.
