Two days ago I thought I had a clay-colored sparrow on Gray Rd, Hooper.
Today I returned and found the bird again and verified my thoughts two days
ago. The bird is just south of the bridge crossing Cow Creek and the bend
in the road. Look for a thin 4' long green grass clump (timothy) on the
east edge of the black-top. The bird is with a mixed flock of Brewer's,
chipping and Savannah Sparrows. These birds are forging on the grass clump.
The bird has a clear breast, very noticeable white eye-brow (supercillium)
and noticeable white crown on it's head. Beware these birds will spook off
and I had looked twice today the first time finding only three birds there.
Upon returning about 30 min. later there were about 20 birds and the
clay-colored.
