Today, the lower Columbia Birders went out in unsettled
weather with high winds and intermittant rain. While
check out the sparrow at King Avenue, we saw a single
small finch flyover making a call consistant with COMMON
REDPOLL. We all agreed that it was not a siskin and
Todd Thornton and I heard it well. It disappeared in the
large impenetrable blackberry kack south of the main
dirt bike track.

Also in the area were AMERICAN PIPITS, WESTERN MEADOWLARK,
MERLIN and a dark-phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK.

Beach erosion at the South Jetty is phenomenal. The
30meters closest to the river at the fisherman's lot
is gone. Water was blowing over the jetty at "c" as
if it wasn't even there. And Trestle Bay was full up
to the roadway.

Overall a very inclement day.
