This reminds me of when I was young and growing up in Eugene, OR. We had chickens, mainly to keep the bugs down around the flower and rose gardens. Every year a new group of chicks would emerge and a few of the Scrub Jays that hung around would mimick hen calls and lure the young chicks out and attack them with a sharp peck in the head. My dad would get very upset, but we didn't really need more chickens and I always marveled at how clever the jays would be to get the chicks in this way. Maybe this is one reason I have never thought bad of corvids, regardless of what bad claims people make of them.
