I have offered the flickers a nesting box in hopes that the starlings don't
get to it first. My question is. I have a few feeders within about 10-15 feet
from the box. Should these be moved further away from the nesting box or are
they OK where they are? There is a female northern r/s flicker modifying the
entrance hole to her liking while she is getting harassed by the starlings!
May the flickers conquer!
While I have your attention, I have a question about left overs spoiling
on the ground. I understand that leftovers can spoil and be harmful to
tweets. I have been "turning" the leftovers into the soil every other day or
so. There is also a lot of ground feeding going on. Can you have to much
accumulate on the ground whereas it becomes harmful to the tweets? I'm
talking primarily cracked corn, b/o sunflower seeds and a lesser amount of
millet type food. The finch food leftovers seems to get eaten up quite
quickly. It is my practice to keep all of my feeders clean and fresh water
available. In my third year of "serious" birding I'm experiencing outstanding
backyard birding and am looking forward to your responses.
