Subject: Varilux Lenses and birders

uhm....correct me if I'm wrong, but why do you have to use glasses at all when you look through binocs? I usually push mine up or down and make the correction I'd get from my glasses with the focusing wheel, pre-setting the left eyepiece for differences between my right & left eyes. I'm one of those lucky few who have decent vision (20-20 to 20-25 depending upon, plus a bit of astigmatism) at age 57, and though I tried varilux I didn't like them (esp. for work - commercial pilot), but putting a plastic lens in front of all that expensive glass is like wearing earplugs to the symphony, unless you have to.

Or am I missing something? Maybe I should be telling people I share my glasses and scope with to keep their lenses in place?
