Birders,

Here are some more details on the Delta, B.C. IVORY GULL, from a
message posted yesterday by Daniel Bastaja to several B.C. birding
groups.

This is only the 6th B.C. record of IVORY GULL, and the first for the
Vancouver area.

This is Daniel Bastaja posting for Tuesday Dec. 4th, 2001. This
afternoon at 3 pm I joined a dozen other birders at the south foot of
72nd St. in Delta for incredible views of an adult IVORY GULL sitting
out on the Boundary Bay foreshore. The bird was quite distant but it's
small, gleaming white form was easily distinguishable in the binocs.
It looked like it came straight out of a Tide commercial. A 60X zoom
lens on a scope brought out all the details.....the small round body
and head, the stubby black legs, the small bill with a dark base and
yellow tip and the primaries extending well beyond the tail.
Congratulations to Jon King, an out of town birder visiting from
California, for a spectacular find!
