The four of us had on-and-off drizzle, a touch of sun, only a little cold
wind - really not a bad day. The river has risen another 5 inches since last
week, meaning that we could not get to the northwest end of the boardwalk, and
we had to go around via the east side. This made the trip rather long
time-wise.

For birds, we ended up with a pretty good list, picking up six species at the
Rowing Club. We ended up with 10 species of duck (our first good day for duck
diversity this winter). Quite a bit of hawk activity, with at least 3
RED-TAILED HAWK and three sightings of COOPER'S HAWK, possibly the same bird
each time.

Highlights:

Red-necked Grebe? Far out on lake; ID 95% sure
Double-crested Cormorant Finally more than just 1 or 2
Wood Duck Beautiful drake at RC pond
Green-winged Teal Male at RC
Lesser Scaup M & F, about 6
Common Goldeneye 2 females at lake
Ruddy Duck 2 females at lake
Cooper's Hawk Nice adult
Ring-necked Pheasant Seen again at compost piles
Red-breasted Nuthatch RC - unusual away from Clise Mansion
Brown Creeper Two sightings, same bird?

Other ducks - Mallard, Bufflehead, Common Merganser, Gadwall, Ring-necked.

Lots of House Finches, quite a few Pine Siskin, even some American Goldfinch,
but no Common Redpoll :( I keep looking.

All told, 52 species.
