I took Randy Hills advice and birded the freash snow on the ground this
morning in search of Lapland longspurs. I was heading east on Hwy 26 with
Hwy 261 in mind. I hardly got going when I came upon a large (approx. 700)
flock of horned larks who were coming to the roadway just east of milemarker
50. I found not only three Lapland longspurs but also 1 snow bunting. I
then moved east on Hwy 26 to Damon Rd and found another flock of horned
larks ( approx. 250) and found another Lapland longspur with this group.
Needless to say I never crossed Hwy 395 or got close to Hwy 261.
