Subject: [bcintbird] More on the Ivory Gull
Hi. This is Daniel Bastaja posting for Tuesday Dec. 18th, 2001. I just had
a
call from Ken Klimko at 3:00 pm this afternoon to say that the adult IVORY
GULL is currently present at the same location as it was seen on Saturday
afternoon. This is at the end of the Robert's Bank Jetty in Delta where
the
road curves sharply to the left around a small bay immediately before the
Deltaport container terminal. The bird is apparently resting on an
equipment
barge tied up at a dock there. This makes three separate days (Sat./ Sun./
Tues.) where it was observed in the same general area. The observers I
have
talked to all said it is anti-social, preferring to hang out by itself
rather than in the company of other gulls and that it is also a tad
inactive, just hanging out for periods of time. This could make it
possible
to overlook if, like on Sunday, it was hunkered down among the shoreline
detritus. Good luck to everyone. Definitely worth it to play hooky!

Hi. Daniel Bastaja again on Tuesday, Dec. 18th, 2001. Further to my posting
about the IVORY Gull, I think it should be mentioned that the proximity of
the bird's current location to the Deltaport container terminal is such that
the floodlights from the terminal illuminate the area at night making the
bird visible. On Saturday the bird was observed up to approximately 10:00
pm! So don't let a little thing like the sun going down stop you. If you
can't get out of work it may still be worth it to head out there afterwards
to see if there is a repeat of the evening show! Regards, D.
