Hey Tweeters,
Bruce LaBar, Vivian Gross, and I had a good day aboard the boat yesterday
(12/17) for the Sequim-Dungeness CBC. The boat goes out of John Wayne Marina
in Sequim, then heads out to Protection Island, circling it and heading to
Dungeness Spit (or shall we now say, island) before heading back into the
marina. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but here are some of the
highlights:

Yellow-billed Loons - 2 adults on the way to Protection Island in Clallam
County. The birds were seen a fair distance from each other about 10 minutes
apart. Great viewing of both at very close range and in great light.

Ancient Murrelets - well over 400, mostly concentrated between Protection
Island and Dungeness Spit.

Long-tailed Duck - 900
Eared Grebe - 15
Thayer's Gull - 1 near Dungeness Spit
Herring Gull - 2 near Dungeness Spit

PS Aboard the Tacoma CBC boat on Saturday, the highlight was a single ROCK
SANDPIPER with 15 Black Turnstones on the slag piles at Asarco. This area is
not accessible (or even viewable, for that matter) by foot. The
BuffleheadxCommon Goldeneye hybrid was present at the same spot and time.
