Thursday, December 19--saga of the Ivory Gull

We just returned from a trip to B.C. to look for the Ivory Gull.
We arrived at the end of the Deltaport Road at 10:00 am. The barge with the
sign reading "Fraser River Pile and Dredge" was nowhere to be seen. A second
barge was bustling with activity, people working all over the deck. No gulls
at all on the barge. The tide was high with very little beach exposed.
Several birders including Ruth and Patrick Sullivan were wondering where to
look next. Everybody scattered for a couple hours but then coalesced back at
the Deltaport Ship Access Gate.

Based on a hunch and an earlier brief look at a white speck on the rocks next
to the beach on the coal port road, Ruth Sullivan decided to take another
look. Ruth and Patrick located the bird next to the coal port road.

Thanks very much to Ruth for her diligence and insight.

Cheers,
