I read with interest Jim McCoy's addition of Long-tailed Duck to Donna
Kish's "yard" list in his post on the 19th. Maybe I should say I read it
with disbelief, since Long-tailed Duck seems to be a salt water species
around here in the winter, and I have never seen one in the Sewer Ponds
during 4 years of fairly regular censusing.
Well, that changed today when I witnessed a hen Long-tailed Duck fly in and
start diving regularly in the first small pond by the buildings! This was
number 126 that I have seen at the ponds during the past 4 years. (Number
125 was a redpoll.)
