Hi,
Not to single anyone out in particular. The Sibley guides are great but they
are not the final word in identifing a bird. Just because a bird looks
"exactly" like the Sibley drawing(or anyone drawing for that matter) doesn't
mean it is that bird. Besides does any bird really look exactly like a
drawing of it? I see a lot of post from folks quoting Sibley like it was the
bible, even the bible has been questioned and interpreted in many different
ways. In this case, hey, maybe it is an Artic Loon. But I would put more
weight behind Patrick Sulivan's observations than a single drawing in
Sibley's any day.
Just some thoughts.....Anyone else have any thoughts on the use or over use
of Sibley's drawings alone when identifing hard to indentify birds?
