Yesterday I closely observed a young Glaucous Gull from 2:30-3:00pm at the
mouth of the Elwha River bathing, resting on gravelbar, & flying upriver.
Checked it carefully with 20-60X scope & Sibley guide on-site. Most closely
resembled 2nd winter bird illustrated in Sibley: large size, very white
mantle, wing tips & tail, pale eye, bill long and pink with black tip. When
I got home I also cross-ref. it in Grant (2nd Edit.), Mullarney et al (Birds
of Europe), & Zimmer (Birding in the Amer. West).
