Hey tweets, A couple of birders have raised a question about the plovers I
saw at Hansen reserve. I wanted to answer them directly, so as not to
burden the rest of you, but some kind of jinx seems to be besetting my
e-mail system again (still?). My replies kept getting rejected. So I'll try
posting to the group to see if my post goes through. Sometimes I wish the
Luddites were still with us:

The plovers I saw did not have black in their armpits, by which I assume
they were not black-bellied plovers. They might have been Pacific
golden-plovers, but I think not. They just didn't jizz that way. I prefer
American golden-plovers. They were in a drowned field, but not really on
the grass. Instead they seemed to be resting near a kind of shallow slough,
beside a furrow. There were five birds in the flock, and I watched them fly
in. Also in the area was a greater yellowlegs and a common snipe.- Connie,
Seattle
