When I checked the common name of what I consider the Seattle parakeets in
Juniper & Parr's Parrots of the World, I came up with "Red-fronted Parakeet"
for Aratinga wagleri. Actually the species has been called Scarlet-fronted
Parakeet by most books. I have a hard enough time keeping the names
Scarlet-fronted and Crimson-fronted straight in my head, and now Ian Paulsen
pointed out to me that there's also a Red-fronted Parakeet (Cyanoramphus
novaezelandiae), a New Zealand species. I certainly don't want *that* name
applied to the Seattle birds. Scientific names are easier! Just say
"Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae" quickly 5 times.

I welcome further discussion of why they were considered Crimson-fronted in
the CBC.
