At about 9:45 this morning the gray, adult Gyrfalcon was sitting atop the
big dead tree in the field opposite Westwind Farm south of Snohomish, one of
the usual spots cited by others this winter. It flew off to the south, and
we were unable to re-find it. In searching along Short School Rd., we
discovered a brown, immature Gyr' (with bluish cere, etc.) on a fencepost at
Craven Farms along this road. It flew after a few minutes, heading north
and east, out of sight.

In the field opposite Westwind Farm to the south were dozens of Trumpeter
Swans, a handful of Tundra Swans, and at least three Greater White-fronted
Geese among Canadas.

At Big Ditch north of Stanwood, there were two Snowy Owls, but this time the
birds were south of the road out to Big Ditch sitting on fence posts well
behind the farm buildings, closer to the dike. Presumably these are the
same two owls often seen on the driftwood further north up the dike from the
Big Ditch parking area, as no Snowies were apparent there.
