Tweeters and Yakkers,
Bill and Nancy LaFramboise, while doing site guide work for the
soon-to-be-published ABA Guide to Washington Birdfinding, located a Northern
Hawk-Owl 8.6 miles west of the Bickleton School (High School?) along the
Goldendale-Bickleton Rd (DeLorme p. 27, A-5). This is in an area of burned
Ponderosa Pine and Garry Oak. They located the owl at 2:15 pm 2 February. To
my knowledge, this is the southernmost recorded hawk-owl in Washington (a
December 1926 Yakima County record and specimen was not far away).
Good Birding,
Andy Stepniewski
