Some of you may have heard that a possible Greater Sand Plover
may be wintering near Pt Reyes...

As long as I'm passing along rarities - a bird thought to possibly be
a Greater Sand Plover was found on Jan 29 at Point Reyes, CA. If
that is what it is, and not the similar-appearing but smaller Lesser
Sand Plover (Mongolian Plover), then it would be a first record
for North America (and Lesser has never occurred in North America
in winter).

This is even more amazing considering a Eurasian Golden Plover
was found on Jan 14 at Ketchikan, Alaska - also a first winter
record for North America. Watch those shorebird flats - something's
up!
