Tweeters: I am truly amazed at how often our western jay is referred to in Tweeters as Stellar's jay, even in some of the more formal writeups, e..g. " South Puget Sound's Best Places for Bird Watching." This is not a bird from the stars, but rather a bird named after Georg Wilhelm Steller, a naturalist on Vitus Bering's expedition to far eastern Russia and on to Alaska. His discoveries also included Steller's eider, Steller's sea-eagle, Steller's sealion, and Steller's sea cow(long extinct). Let's give credit where due.
