Hi Tweeters,
This Saturday afternoon while I was driving on 51st St.NE (just south of
152nd Ave) between Marysville and Smokey Point, I glanced a Hawk. I
immediately turned around and went back. This bird was perched in a bush in
the middle of a field just north of a trailer park. It was very dark, almost
as dark as a crow except that it's bill was yellowish in color. There was no
place to pull over and I (wouldn't you know it) did not have my binoculars
with me. The bird was about 50' off the road so I was able to see it pretty
well. With traffic looming though, I went down the road and turned around
again. I tried to pull off the road on again but traffic would not allow me
to do so. The bird took off and I caught a glimpse of the underside of it's
wings which were fairly light on it's primary and secondary feathers. In
addition, I noted some light barring on it's tail feathers. My best guess is
this one is a DARK MORPH ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK. Has anyone else seen this bird
or have any other possible ideas?
Thanks,
Beth Thompson
