Kathy is Dave's wife and was down in Coos Bay, too. Had
she seen it she could have (would have) properly identified it.

The person who saw the bird was an un-named WDFW observer.

I am not on Tweeters up there in Washington, but I was hoping maybe
somebody could forward this message to those folks. I was talking to a
WA Dept of Fish and Wildlife employee on Thurs morning 18 Jan. She had
conducted a Snowy Plover survey at Midway Beach on 11 Jan (Pacific
Cty). She told me she had 25 plovers and mixed in with them was a
MONGOLIAN PLOVER. I questioned her a little, and suggested maybe
MOUNTIAN PLOVER (especially since I know there has been one around Ft
Canby area), however she insisted it was a MONGOLIAN. Regardless, I
thought some WA birders might like to go take a look at these plovers
and confirm/refute the report. Thanks, I'd be interested hearing any
results from the WA folks.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
