Driving across Redmond this morning on 116th street crossing the Sammamish
valley I had a very nice over the road sighting of a Bald Eagle. I flew
south over the Willows Run Golf Course water hazards scattering water fowl
with Mt. Rainier in the background in pre-sunrise pink. All very nice
during a commute.

We all may wonder what increase development of the open agricultural fields
in this area into soccer fields may do to sightings like this. Prior to
Willows Run there were abundant Northern Harriers and sightings of up to 9
waterfowl species on an afternoon run were not unusual. Now, the Harriers
are almost all gone and Mallards are the main waterfowl. Open grass is
better than warehouses and asphalt, but open fields are better yet.
