I see SURFBIRDS several times every winter just south of the Alki Point
lighthouse, across from the old sewage treatment plant. I don't have
specific records; there are usually fewer than a dozen. They are not nearly
as reliable as the SANDERLINGS, though, which can be found on that stretch
of beach pretty much constantly during the winter.

Reply to Mike Wagenbach's question about Surfbirds in Seattle: We live
near Alki Point and frequently walk or jog a loop that includes a
stretch along Alki Blvd. from Bonair Ave to California Ave. We have
seen a small flock of Surfbirds (c. 12 birds) frequently at Duwamish
Head this winter. I haven't kept records of most of these sightings,
but I do have one for December 4, 2000, and we saw them several times in
December and January. Incidentally, I also have a record for the
Surfbirds in the same location from December 26, 1999.
