Hi All,
Sunday turned out to be such a beautiful day, I decided to walk
the dikes here and check out the birdlife. I had a VIRGINIA RAIL within
about 10 feet of me, at the base of the dike. It looked pretty cold and
miserable. Also there were about 10 RED CROSSBILLS, an immature NORTHERN
HARRIER, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and 1 TURKEY VULTURE. A large flock of
COMMON MERGANSERS cruised by causing even the "power walkers" to take a
minute and enjoy! The males were very impressive in the bright sunlight.
A great day to be out; good birding, Doug Watkins
