I have placed two images of the Bingen male Tufted Duck taken between 8 am
and 9 am, Sunday, February 18th on the Klickitat County Accidental Records
web site. You can see the images by clicking on
http://www.teleport.com/~bhansen/tudu.jpg (side view with tuft) or
http://www.teleport.com/~bhansen/tudu2.jpg (front view show back and side
comparison with Lesser Scaup). About 9 am, a large barge came up river, and
the group of 9 birds ( 8 scaup and 1 Tufted Duck) took off headed east or
upstream and I believe they landed about 1/2 to 3/4 mile. This is the area
which is the easterly terminus for the row crops and dike. This is the
area where it was observed on the Hood River Christmas Bird Count.

Most recently the bird has been seen regularly hanging out at The Point of
the Marina, where the River and the inland bay meet. There is a basalt
column on the lawn which can be used as a blind of sorts while observing.
That is where these images were taken.
