Hi Tweets,

Today, at the Vail Tree Farm south of Olympia in Thurston County Washington, I observed an adult
Golden Eagle circling around the south side of Skookumchuck Reservoir (close to where I saw a
Northern Shrike last week). I got myself stuck on a muddy road and had to be rescued, which
took half the day, but on my way out, I got a great look at juvenile Golden Eagle just a mile
or two from where I had seen the adult. It's probably too early to start concluding that nest
site is in the area, but I can't help but think it's a real possibility. The area has all the
charactistics of the majority of western Washington nest sites that were active in the early
1980s, lots of recent clearcuts with a scatter patchs of older trees, including a few really
big conifers. Might the juvenile be revisiting its natal ground?
