Hi Tweets,

We'll be spending a few days on San Juan Island next week so I'm wondering
if any of you have been there recently and might be able to offer tips or
tidbits about sightings or good locations. I've birded the island several
times and have the usual resource books, but some of you might have the
inside scoop. Thanks in advance.

To sweeten the pot, I'll offer that last Saturday, after the FRG raptor
census, Nancy Taylor and I had a five falcon afternoon with the closest look
we've ever had at a Gyrfalcon (50' up in an alder just off the road). This
was the immature brown phase that's been seen on the north end of the Samish
Flats along Chuckanut and east to Worley Rd. Even as a teenager, it is an
elegant bird.

Good birding,
Joe Mackie
