coordinates if you have them, push the star button on your telephone now.
Otherwise wait for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good
directions, your fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen in Walla Walla, Walla Walla Co WA on Feb
12 according to Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The bird was in the same general
area as last year's Lesser Black-backed. To get to the location.... When
traveling to Walla Walla from the Pasco on US 12, Take the Walula Avenue
exit that is labeled for the Walla Walla Community College. Follow Walula
Avenue about 2.8 miles to Hussey (sp?) Road and turn left on Hussey. Follow
Hussey and look for the fallow onion fields just down from Newell. The bird
was making regular appearances between 9 and 11 am - I haven't heard
anything new since last weekend.

A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was at the intersection of WA 26 and WA 243 in western
Grant Co WA on Feb 14 according to Bob Flores. The bird was in the Wanapum
pool behind the Wanapum Dam just south of the jct of I-90 and WA 26. WA
DeLorme 52, AB-1.

Three HARRIS'S SPARROWS were at Central Ferry State Park in Whitman Co WA on
Feb 10 according to Charles Swift. This past week Al Winter relocated 1
immature and 1 winter adult. The park is along WA 127 on the Snake River.
The birds were more or less together in the small clump of trees and brush
just inside the park entrance east of the main parking lot, near where it is
blocked off. WA DeLorme 56, CD-2.

A flock of 100-200 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were about 1.5 miles west of
Little Goose Dam in Columbia Co WA along Little Goose Dam Road which heads
to the dam via WA 261 north of Starbuck. WA DeLorme 55, D-8.
The LONG-TAILED DUCK (aka Oldsquaw) seen in the Snake River in Columbia Co
WA on Feb 11 by Charles Swift was seen again this past week by Al Winter.
The bird was at the mouth of the Tuchannon River along WA 261several miles
east of Lyons Ferry State Park. WA DeLorme 55, D-7.5.

As many as 2 winter female LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen last week in
Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID by John and Sue Rogers and myself. At least 1 bird
has been around since 28 Jan. Look for them on the Clearwater River near the
Port of Lewiston. To see this bird, you may try looking from the levy on the
south side of the river at either of the two parking lots along the US 12
bypass, or by sneaking to the levy near the grain towers in North Lewiston.
To get on the US 12 bypass, follow US 12 across the Clearwater River and
then stay right past the first traffic light. At the next light, which is
18th Street, turn right onto the bypass. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

Two winter male LONG-TAILED DUCKS are on the Snake River near Asotin, Asotin
Co WA. They were seen this past week by Louise and George LaVoie and Hank
and Carole Vande Voorde. Check near the mouth of Asotin Creek, and when
southbound on WA 129, turn toward the river right at the "Entering Asotin"
sign and check the old boat launch. Carole reports they've flown in from
upriver so it might be wise to check in that direction too. WA DeLorme 43,
B-8.

A single NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL is continuing to roost at Spalding Park east
of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID. First spotted on 20 Jan by Rick Welle, the
bird was seen last weekend by John and Sue Rogers. Head east from Lewiston
on US 95 toward Lapwai. Just after crossing the river, turn left into the
Nez Perce historical site and immediately turn right, heading down hill
toward the picnic area. At the stop sign, turn left and follow the road over
the bridge to the grove of trees / cemetery / picnic area. ID DeLorme 54,
A-1.5.

A GYRFALCON was along US 395 in Franklin Co WA on Feb 15. Randy Hill spotted
the bird between mileposts 35 and 36. WA DeLorme 39, A-8.

A PRAIRIE FALCON is persisting along US 95 a couple of miles north of
Genesee, Latah Co ID. Both Dave Holick and I have been seeing this bird
regularly near milepost 333 and Kluss Road. ID DeLorme 58, C-1.

BLUE JAYS are being seen in Spokane WA. Matthew Moskwik provided the
following directions: From downtown Spokane head east on I-90 until you get
to exit 289. Exit 289 and at the traffic light, turn right onto WA 27 (aka
Pines Road) and head south about 1.2 miles to a traffic light at Sprague.
Continue straight through the traffic light for about another mile and WA 27
will begin to curve to the left. Just before the next traffic signal, turn
right in order to continue on Pines Road, which will continue south (there's
a sign warning you of this before you reach the traffic light). In about
0.25 miles, turn right onto 18th and park on the right side of the road.
Walk south down 18th and you'll come to Whipple Road on your left (it's 1
block west of Pines Road). Check this area down to 20th as well.

The BLUE JAY in Clarkston, Asotin Co WA, first seen on CBC, is still being
seen near Swallows Park according to Carole Vande Voorde. Swallows Park is
along the Snake River south of Clarkston along WA 129.

At least 2 TRUMPETER SWANS remain at Linda Lake about 4 miles south of
Othello, Adams Co WA according to Randy Hill. Take WA 24 to 1 mile north of
the Franklin County line and then turn west on Yeisley Road. Go a mile or so
west until the lake is in view as the road angles NW, and look west from
that point. WA DeLorme 53, BC-7.

An adult THAYER'S GULL was at the Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co ID, City Beach
on 18 Feb according to Stephen Lindsay. The beach is along Northwest Blvd
right next to the CdA Resort.

A female WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL is residing in Coeur d'Alene Dick Cripes
first found the bird on 18 Feb and relocated it on 22 Feb. It is associated
with 2 large flocks of Red Crossbills. To get there from I-90, take the
Sherman Street exit (#15) and go west on Sherman, north on 21st, east on
Pennsylvania, north on 23rd, east on French Gulch Road, north on Galena
Drive at the golf course. Park in the golf course parking lot then walk up
Galena to Hill Drive, to Ponderosa, to Harrison. The trees in this area are
full of crossbills most of the time. Galena seems to offer the best vantage.
Thanks to Stephen Lindsay for the great directions.

A "HARLAN'S" RED-TAILED HAWK was about 1 mile east of Moscow, Latah Co ID on
17 Feb according to Jane Westervelt. The bird was at the UI Plant Science
Farm. From Moscow, head east on ID 8 about 1.5 miles, turn left onto
Lenville Road, and drive the really rutted road into the farm.

A single male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL is coming to a feeder in College Place,
Walla Walla Co WA as is a single COMMON REDPOLL. The redpoll was seen again
on 20 Feb at the feeder of John and Sue Rogers. Call Mike Denny at
509-529-0080 for directions.
