An active eagles' nest in Blaine: just immediately west and next to the Highway 543 southbound on-ramp to I-5, where the truck route southbound from the border enters the freeway. Pretty low-rent if you asked me. Has to be hard to sleep at night.

Tonight Linda and I sat in the truck on the dike out on Lummi Flats at sunset and stopped counting at 30 Short-eared Owls in a half hour, many of them dog-fighting with Northern Harriers over the meadows with very impressive displays of flying skill. The owls would occasionally clap. Very pretty place to watch a meadow filled with cruising owls and Harriers go gradually dark at sunset, Baker in the background, looking east with the setting sun at our back, nice subtle and changing light, very romantic sunset looking west, lots of singles' ad writers taking their required long walks on the beach, too shy to talk to each other. But it's great for owls out there at dawn & dusk.
