A word about driving to the dike on Lummi Flats near Bellingham: I should have added that this is a very sensitive area. All the land west of the Nooksack River and south of Slater Road is part of the Lummi Reservation, and access can be and has been restricted, which they, of course, have the right to do. It's not a place for tour buses or large groups.

One of DeLorme's failings is that reservation land is not marked, so you can be trespassing and not know it. I always check a local phone book when not familiar with an area in which I am birding. They're available everywhere and have good local maps that show restricted land.
