Hello Tweets,

We are going to be moving the Washington Ornithological Society's
BirdBox to a new home sometime within the next week. The new
telephone number will be (206) 281-9172. The new administrator of
the BirdBox is Rachel Lawson, and the box will reside at her home in
Seattle.

The plan is to keep the current number active for six months. Those
who call it will hear a message referring people to the new number.

The team of transcribers, headed by Bob Norton, will continue their
work as before, including the posting of transcripts to Tweeters.

We will notify Tweeters when the box goes down for the transfer, and
Rachel will put an announcement on Tweeters as soon as the box is up
and running at the new number. If all goes well (ha!) it should not
be down for more than a few hours.

The BirdBox first went into service on April 1, 1995, thanks to Bob
Morse (who hatched the idea and did all the background work) and the
late Ruby Egbert (who provided the funding for the original hardware
and software), and to WOS for sponsorship and taking responsibility
for paying the monthly line charge. After a hardware crash in July
1997, Bob Mauritsen rewrote the program with many enhancements. The
BirdBox went back up on October 13, 1997, and has been providing
smooth service ever since.

The BirdBox has become an institution among Washington birders. It
has been my pleasure to look after the box and see it earn its place
in the bird-records community. But six years is a long time, and it
is also a pleasure to see responsibility for its welfare pass to
Rachel's capable hands.

Good birding!
