Just a few observations from the past week:

On Thursday, while driving down to Tacoma, we saw 9 RED-TAILED HAWKS -- 1 lone
bird, and FOUR pairs.

On Sunday, driving back, we saw two adult BALD EAGLES, snuggled side-by-side,
on the snag at Newcastle off I-405.

On Monday at Marymoor I saw two pairs of RED-TAILED HAWKS. Also, twice I saw a
Red-tail fly to the really weird Doug-fir snag SW of the main Marymoor
entrance. The snag in question is the one which has (and has had for years) an
impossibly thin remnant of trunk supporting a big blob of trunk at the top (it
looks almost like a flag flying from a flagpole at the top of the snag). It
looks like the hawks are attempting to build a nest at the base of the
"flagpole". This snag is about a half-mile north of where Red-tails nested
last year; last year's nest is still there.

Today I observed at least 10 GREAT BLUE HERONS at the heronry at Lake Samm
State Park at around 4:00 p.m.

Looks like nesting season begins.
