We spent mid Jan - late April 2000 on Guam. A few trips to other Islands
gave us some wonderful birding and I have to say , my most exciting bird of
the year was the fruit dove. On Palau it was the PALUA FRUIT DOVE and On
Rota the MARIANA FRUIT DOVE. They are so similar in coloring that I almost
think of them as the same bird. They are such a blaze of color as they fly
past and a close up look is very exciting. They have a bright raspberry -hot
pink crown, white face and chest with an orange/ gold belly and vent, white
tip tail and green wings. Bright yellow eye and the white chest feathers are
kinda fluffed up showing bright raspberry between. I shall never forget the
thrill of seeing their beauty.
