Just had a phone call from a friend who said her sister was "attacked"
by a barred owl while on a trail in the early a.m. in Yost Park
(Edmonds). It flew in from behind and got some hair, then turned around
and came back for a frontal assault. This is the 2nd. such story I've
heard this winter. Is this early for Barred owls to start defending
their turf ? Is it breeding season already? I have never found, in my
experience, Barred owls to be this bold and aggressive unless they are
defending their nesting territory. Any informed opinions?
