Update.

The Rare Bird Alert continues for the BLACK-HEADED GULL.

The feature birds are BLACK-HEADED GULL, NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL, & out of town
NORTHERN HAWK-OWL.

Sightings for Saturday, January 6

The BLACK-HEADED GULL continues its stay in the fields along 36th west of
72nd.

The NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was again reported from the Maplewood CA in North
Vancouver.

A NORTHERN HAWK-OWL has been located just south of the border in Washington
State. To find this bird take I-5 to the Birch Bay/Lyndon Road interchange,
head east, and then turn north onto Stein Road. The bird was perched on top
of a utility pole just past 8699 Stein Road.

A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen at Colony Farm.

In Langley, a GYRFALCON was observed on Saddlewood Cres. in over-flight.

Friday, January 5

The BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen along 36th.

There were several reports from Blackie Spit of the LONG-BILLED CURLEW,
MARBLED GODWIT, a WESTERN MEADOWLARK, up to 5 male EURASIAN WIDGEON and 5
GREATER YELLOWLEGS. At nearby Elgin Heritage Park were 56 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS.

Three WESTERN GULLS were seen from the White Rock Pier.

Four CRESTED MYNAS were sighted near the intersection of Wylie & 1st in
Vancouver.

Out of town at Harrison Lake was a pair of REDHEADS & 2 AMERICAN DIPPERS.

Thursday, January 4th

The BLACK-HEADED GULL was at its usual location.

Seen amongst the large gull roost off Burns Drive were the SLATY-BACKED GULL
& 3 WESTERN GULLS.

The EARED GREBE & RUDDY TURNSTONE were reported from the White Rock Pier.

At Blackie Spit were the LONG-BILLED CURLEW, MARBLED GODWIT & a PEREGRINE.

The WILLET was observed on the Tsawwassen Jetty.

A NORTHERN PYGMY OWL was reported for the second day in the northwest
section of the Maplewood CA.

Wednesday, January 3rd

The BLACK-HEADED GULL was observed in fields along 36th Ave.

The SLATY-BACKED GULL was reported along Burns Drive in the large gull
roost. Also reported in the roost were 3 WESTERN GULLS, and 42 HERRING
GULLS.

The RUDDY TURNSTONE and EARED GREBE were again seen from the White Rock
Pier.

On Deltaport Way near the 1st overpass was an AMERICAN KESTREL. Out on the
Jetty was a EURASIAN WIDGEON.

At Reifel a BARRED OWL was seen. Just south of the Refuge 3 SANDHILL CRANES
were seen in over-flight.

Also seen in over-flight was a GYRFALCON in the 900 block of West 58th in
Vancouver.

Two NORTHERN SHRIKES were seen pursuing a Northern Flicker at Elgin Heritage
Park in Surrey.

Another NORTHERN SHRIKE was observed near the entrance to Reifel.
