I was down on Ruston Way this afternoon at about 4pm. The water was a bit
choppy and in the shadow of the hill behind which made seeing any birds on
the water difficult. It is wasn't for his rising out of the water and
spreading his wings I would have missed our friend the Albino Yellow-billed
Loon. I watched him for about 20 minutes. In that time he caught 3 fish that
I could see, one fish took him close to 5 minutes to subdue and swallow. I
noticed a Western Grebe and also Cormorant snacking in the same area. 2
pairs of Barrow's Goldeneye were also feeding close to the shore. Seemed to
be a decent dinner buffet for these guys. This was at the Asarco end of
Ruston Way.
