My resident song sparrow has been guarding the suet feeder all winter and
lurks in the vines that he uses to gain access to the feeder which is
surrounded by wire to keep out the starlings ( a moderately successful
experiment).
But today I witnessed "her" (I have nicknamed her "Tonya" after the skater
who was reluctant to compete on an even basis)
attack the flock of bushtits. She entered the cage and chased them all away
then triumphantly stood on top of the suet and gorged for several minutes.
