................Sat: At Whitetail Deer Refuge at Cathlamet, Wash.(half
way between Longview and Long Beach, Wash. on Hwy. 4 along Columbia
River) things pretty quiet. Saw an immature White-fronted Goose roaming
with a flock of smaller Canada Geese. Some Belted Kingfishers observed.
................Sun: At Willapa Bay at Leadbetter Point north of Long
Beach. Low, low tide.3 immature Semipalmated Plovers spotted (....had
all* black* bills and *brown* rather than black breastbands).
Interesting sighting considering that this species is seldom seen in
this area in winter.
................Mon: Parking lot C at SJCR at Fort Stevens, Oreg. Snowy
Owl observed on the Columbia River beach just north of the lot. *No*
Mountain Plover sighted. 9 Least Sandpipers; 4 Long-billed Dowitchers;
and some Dunlin seen on the mud and sand surrounding the ponds by
parking lot..........that is...till a light-phase Rough-legged Hawk
circled overhead and scared all the shorebirds off!!!!!
................Other more common birds and waterfowl seen, but not
mentioned here.
