Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Jan 12 (2001). This hotline,

An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 2 ad MEW GULLS, 1 ad GLAUCOUS GULL, 1 ad
WESTERN GULL, and a THAYER'S GULL were on the Walla Walla River delta in
western Walla Walla Co WA on Dec 31. The Lesser Black-backed was seen again
on Jan 6 by Robert Woodley. The best time to see the gulls is from about 3
pm on at the Walla Walla River Delta when the birds come into roost. The
Walla Walla River Delta can be accessed from US 12 just north of the
junction of US 12 and US 730. There's a pull-out along US 12 at milepost
306.9 and a path to the delta. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

On Jan 8 an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, perhaps the same bird that was
at the delta, was seen upstream of Nelson Island in Richland, Benton Co, WA
by Robert Woodley. This location is about where Saint Street ends at the
Columbia River.

Two male RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were at a feeder in Harrison, Kootenai Co ID on
Jan 1 according to Stephen Lindsay. At least 1 was still present on Jan 10.
The birds were alternating between some feeders and an adjacent thicket at
the Osprey Inn. The feeders can be seen from ID 97 as it leaves Harrison to
the north. There is a turnout across from the feeders that affords an
excellent viewing position. Also at Harrison, just west of the Harrison
Marina in Lake Coeur d'Alene was a single drake RED-BREASTED MERGANSER on
Sun Jan 7 according to Charles Swift. ID DeLorme 60, BC-1.5.

A single GLAUCOUS?WINGED GULL and a single adult GLAUCOUS GULL were at Grand
Coulee Dam, Douglas Co, WA on Jan 5 according to Bruce LaBar, Tom Schooley,
and Ryan Shaw. WA DeLorme 86, A-1.

A drake EURASIAN WIGEON was on the grassy portion of the levee along the
Snake River in Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID on Jan 10 according to Keith
Carlson. It was near the grain growers facility. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

Two or four TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were seen near Othello, Adams Co WA on Thu
Jan 11 by Bob Flores. The birds were along WA 17near its intersection with
Anson Road. The tricolors are forging in an apple orchard with a large group
of European Starlings and Red-winged Blackbirds. The forging flock is about
500 in size and is easy to detect. This area is only a few miles out of
Othello. WA DeLorme 53, B-7.

A GYRFALCON was about 5 miles northeast of Enterprise, Wallowa Co OR on
Thur Jan 11 according to Tom Underhill. He saw the bird at the corner of
Klages and Crow Creek roads. Oregon DeLorme 87, C-7.

SNOW BUNTINGS were on the Rathdrum Prairie northwest of Coeur d'Alene,
Kootenai Co ID on Jan 12 according to Stephen Lindsay. A flock of 60 birds
were on Lancaster Road, between Meyer and Huetter roads. ID DeLorme 60,
AB-1.

More than 120 SNOW BUNTINGS were along WA 172 heading east from Mansfield,
Douglas Co WA on Sat Jan 6 according to Matthew Moskwik. WA DeLorme 84, B-3.
