JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge has an immediate opening for a Wildlife
Technician

Nisqually NWR, located 8 miles northeast of Olympia, Washington, is seeking
a wildlife technician to assist the Refuge in conducting landbird monitoring
and habitat restoration projects. Working as an AmeriCorps member, wildlife
technician duties include: 1) set-up and shut-down of mist-net and banding
stations; 2) proper removal and handling of birds from mist-nets; 3)
conducting habitat assessments of banding sites (including identification of
native and introduced plant species); 4) computer data entry, summarization,
and analysis; 5) noxious weed control; and 6) native plant restoration.

Requirements
Some experience handling small birds
Some experience working with mist-nets
Some experience in identifying plants
Excellent computer skills, including working with spreadsheets and
databases
Excellent ability to work with others, including volunteer groups
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Additional Requirements

This person serves as a member of the AmeriCorps administered Washington
State Employment Security Department and must also meet the following
requirements:
Must be 18-25 years of age
Must be willing to serve an 40 hr/week, 11 month term
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National, or Permanent Resident Alien of the
United States.
Have a High School Diploma or GED, or agree to obtain one while serving.
Have not previously served two terms in an AmeriCorps State or National
Program.

Benefits
Corpsmembers earn $800/month living stipend.
Covered by health insurance.
Education Award of $4,725 for prior student loans or future education.
Up to $200 for education and training.
Covered by Labor & Industries Insurance.
Members with student loans may postpone repayments while employed.
