The following is the comprehensive list of species seen on the two
field trips to the Vancouver Lake wetlands areas as described in the
site guide in "Wild in the City." The Emperor Goose was only seen on
Sunday. Interesting to me was the fact that small passerines were
more easily found on Sunday when the weather was worse--most would
not respond to pishing on Saturday. Saturday's trip started at
Vancouver Lake Park, then Frenchman's Bar, and Post Office Lake on
Ridgefield NWR. Sunday's trip started at Post Office Lake, went
north to the last small ponds on the accessible part of the refuge,
then to Frenchman's Bar (briefly), and the Flushing Channel. A
running race on Sunday kept us out of the park. Pintail was the
predominant duck species at PO Lake--1000+ both days
