Hi All
The story was in all the Italian papers today (and on the news yesterday
evening). In the finest traditions of journalism most of the details in
the story were wrong.
Anna Giordano (who BTW is internationally famous for organising and
running the raptor migration protection camps at Messina in the face of
death threats and physical violence) wrote to the Italian EBN list to
say that the bird is a jackdaw (she's seen the photo), owned by an
undertaker in Messina who came forward after finding a 50,000 lire note
(about =A316) in a chicken run in his garden. Of the other 450,000 lire
there is no trace - the bird has presumably spent it.
In an attempt to head Andrew Fuller off at the pass, I wonder if the
owner will be "coffin'" up the missing money? :-))
