This short report is for Sat 1/27/01

We first went to Big ditch to look for the two Snowy Owls. They were there
but very far away to look from a 10x binocular. Other birds seen were :
American Bittern
Great Blue Heron
Western Meadowlarks
Norentry Harriers (many)
Red-winged Black birds (couple of hundred)

Then we headed for Fir Island Rd, where we were watching those thousands of
Snow Geese. As an Eagle approached and kept circling many times there was a
panic and all these geese filled the sky. Since it was after the sunset, I
think the geese were not ready to leave this field because of the increasing
darkness. But finally they decided to head to some other field.

In their final move, suddenly one geese felled to the ground from the sky,
and the unlucky bird felled on the road. But somehow he survived the fall,
recovered after couple of minutes and started walking in the field and
disappeared. Shortly after he disappeared we saw one harrier flying very low
in the same area. I guess he knows that there are some injured or isolated
birds.

Other birds seen were Bald Eagles and a pair of Golden Eagle.

Happy Birding!
