Greetings,

Field Trip Report, Snohomish County, 29 January 2001.

Today I scoped Puget Sound for several hours from Ocean Avenue in Edmonds. Ocean Avenue is a short road that runs above the Puget Sound shoreline. From I-5 in Lynnwood head west on SR 524. In Edmonds, just after Olympic View Drive, go north on 9 Avenue North, then left on Water Street to Ocean Avenue.

One Arctic Loon was viewed from 1430 - 1559 under sunny skies and no wind. The bird was as close as 200 feet and very gradually moved off to the north. At one point the Arctic Loon was very close to a group of 3 Pac Loons and the difference in head shape, bill posture and coloration between these two species was easy to see. I viewed the bird from near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Water Street. This would be the first sighting for Snohomish County and is undoubtedly one of the Pt No Pt birds.

Good Birding,
David Beaudette
