Columbia Estuary Report - 1/29/2001

I just got a call from Mike Denny who spent the last couple
days in the area. He found an adult winter FRANKLIN'S GULL
on N Honeyman Rd North of Scapoose, Columbia Co. He also
found a ROSS'S GOOSE at Sunset Lake (just south of Camp Rilea
off Hwy 101). The goose flew off when they first found it
yesterday, but it was back on the lake this morning.

A possible YELLOW-BILLED LOON was reported from Nahcotta,
Pacific Co. Michelle and I will be going to check out
that possibility tomorrow.

In other news, the EURASIAN WIGEON is still being seen in
the slough near DelMoor Loop Rd. SHORT-EARED OWLS are still
being seen at SJCR and King Av. No one has been able to find
the SNOWY OWLS for at least a week, now.

Many folks have remarked about the plethora of HOODED MERGANSERS
in the area this year. COMMON MERGANSER numbers seem to be
up, too.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
