Subject: Marymoor Park Report (Redmond, King Co. WA) 1/31/2001

Hi Tweets - I didn't send out a report last week, so this one will have to do
double duty. Today, like last week, the weather was dark and gray, with rain
threatening. Last week the rain came, today we just had a wet mist.

The only thing notable last week, really, were the hawks, with RED-TAILED,
COOPER'S and SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, and an adult BALD EAGLE near the old nest
site. The next morning, early, I had a BARN OWL in the westernmost cottonwood
at the Pea Patch.

This week, while the species count was about the same (low 40s), there were
more interesting birds:

Green Heron 1 near Dog Central-beautiful
Canvasback 3 out on lake
Cooper's Hawk 1 on west side of slough near lake
Brown Creeper 1 at east end of boardwalk

This was only our second January Green Heron ever, to go along with a single
February record.

We also had a really nice look at a female Downy Woodpecker, and a more distant
view of a female Hairy Woodpecker.
