Columbia Estuary Report - 7/5/2001

An adult SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER already heavily molting on
the mantle and wing coverts was at the shorebird ponds of the
South Jetty of the Columbia River. Shorebird counts at today's
SJCR high tide include:
Killdeer 3
Greater Yellowlegs 3
Lesser Yellowlegs 1
Western Sandpiper 19
Semipalmated Sandpiper 1
Least Sandpiper 5

A GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 5 WESTERNS were in the slough at
Wireless Rd and 3 WESTERNS and 6 LEAST were at the Lewis
and Clark Pond.

The pines around the board walk of parking lot D were full
of hatch-year birds including HUTTON'S VIREO, GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, COMMON YELLWOTHROAT and
SONG SPARROW youngsters.
